The 2nd Florida Regiment was organized from Jackson County, Florida, and composed of ten companies, one of which was Company F, also known as Gulf State Guards. Its Captain was Jones F. McClellan and the company was mustered into service on 13 July 1861 where it became a part of the Army of Northern Virginia.
